Jeff's 20 Questions Answered for Avalon
Where can we go to buy standard equipment?
The town of Mote-Laark. There are plenty of shops that carry delving gear as well as the bazaar.
Where can we go to get platemail custom fitted for this monster I just befriended?
Assuming that happens, likely a blacksmith in the bazaar of Mote-Laark can make it for you for the right price before he calls for a lynch mob. Trying to fit a monster will probably get you hung or burned as a witch or devil.
Who is the mightiest wizard in the land?
Why Old Gabe of course, master of the Planes and advisor to the King. Older than old, it is widely believed that he is really an angel.
Who is the greatest warrior in the land?
While General Hogan Rathwynn of JotunsFort is no pushover, his uncle- Duke Argos II of Gulgose is responsible for slaying more monsters and threats to the Duchy than any other man who lived. The Duke also single handedly put down more than a dozen of the most powerful rogue sorcerers and false proclaimers during The Five Year Summer War, and is venerated as a Hero.
Who is the richest person in the land?
Not any one person, but rather the StormCrows Guild. Their treasure vault contains relics and artifacts worth more than all the gold in the Duchy.
Where can we go to get some magical healing?
The Church of The Mystic Heptarchy can show you the power of divine mercy for a sufficient amount of coin (a hell of a lot of gold). Also the Good Doctor might be able to provide “healing” in the form of skin grafting, implants and prosthesis and such.
What is the deal with my cleric's religion?
The Patrons Of the Cycles are vast – pick a deity, it likely exists in one form or another. All are but a mere plentitude of expressions of the Source.
Where can we go to get cures for the following conditions: poison, disease, curse, level drain, lycanthropy, polymorph, alignment change, death, undeath?
Poison and disease the Witches of Mortok are able to handle, the rest you'll need to seek the aid of the Church Of the Mystic Heptarchy.
Is there a magic guild my MU belongs to or that I can join in order to get more spells?
What? You're a magic user – don’t you know that magic is dangerous and you run the risk of being hung or burnt without the proper papers of endorsement and being Officially Sanctioned. For the sanctioned, the Mystagogue Of Lords offers apprenticeship and training to the initiated.
Where can I find an alchemist, sage or other expert NPC?
Mote-Laark is splitting at the seams with skilled craftsmen and experts.
Where can I hire mercenaries?
Several bars and brothels along the Red Roads of Mote-Laark tend to have desperate sell swords or cater to wandering antisocial brooding types.
Is there any place on the map where swords are illegal, magic is outlawed or any other notable hassles from Johnny Law?
Magic isn't illegal, but you know it's dangerous and can get you hung or worse. The law doesn't allow weapons within the City Of Lords.
Which way to the nearest tavern?
Any which way. Every major street in Mote-Laark and the outlaying villages have at least one tavern of some sort.
What monsters are terrorizing the countryside sufficiently that if I kill them I will become famous?
It's not so much monsters as Sorcerers. Kill a powerful false proclaimer and you'll be famous. In the meantime there are the aquatic horrors issuing forth from the depths of Loch Galmooria, as well as the ever growing numbers of Chaos Imps and Chaos Ogres that stalk Duchy lands.
Are there any wars brewing I could go fight?
There are rumors that the blue skinned Uhrian Nomads and Throg Neanderthals of the Vistigian Wastes have risen up under the Khan Of Dogs, Barzok the Hound, and are threatening the valuable eastern trade routes. There is talk that The Crusaders of Nopple are aggressively recruiting and that the feared Paladins of Yolunds Keep have allied with their cause.
How about gladiatorial arenas complete with hard-won glory and fabulous cash prizes?
It's best to sell yourself into slavery or debt first, or commit a crime – there are short term indentures for arena fighting, but really it's against customs to do it as a free person.
Are there any secret societies with sinister agendas I could join and/or fight?
Yes, The StormCrows, The Church Of the Mystic Heptarchy, the Witches Of Mortok, and various smaller criminal organizations and cults especially the Cult of the Elophant and the Cult of The One Who Hears (Rat God).
What is there to eat around here? Sure there’s several staples – from humble goat cake to decadent Otter filets of various kinds sautéed in mint leaf. The Lakefield Breads Bakery offers a delicious assortment of savory pastries stuffed with questionable meats that are only received under the cover of dark.
Any legendary lost treasures I could be looking for?
Anything from Avalon will fetch a good price, and the really legendary could fetch you your own Duchy seemingly overnight, if the StormCrow and Witches Of Mortok don’t get to you first. For most adventurers it's more about volume not uniqueness – Avalon is very old, unique junk is everywhere. Hell, there are people that will pay you just for plant and soil samples and would offer special services (info, rumors, intel, access) for a head or two of some foul creature.
Where is the nearest dragon or other monster with Type H treasure?
Where you least expect it – but definitely within Avalon. Though these wont be your typical dragons of fantasy and legend. You’ve been warned-the human mind simply wasn’t built for comprehending such creatures.
any thoughts of making Avalon available for solo-play? Also I directly messaged you.
